Amphora handle fragment, terracotta coloured. LFCCV partial inscription visible.

Inscription

Label attached with string reads 'Stamped amphora handle 2nd century. Amphoras were large eathenware containers for storing or transporting wine. Wax was used as a stopper.'

Notes

Alan Cole: Spanish amphora handle, Roman, with name of the wine exporter. Label sellotaped to handle reads 'LFCCVF, L. FABUCIS CRES ENTIS Cu tiense 140/198 AD. This refers to Fignell cutensis' A large sclae explorer Deuma Spain'.
