Notes

Alan Cole
Egyptian foundation cone, hieroglyphic inscription, 18th Dynasty, c. 1539-1293(?). These cones were pushed into the interior walls of an Egyptian tomb or into door jambs. They were not intended to be read by mere mortals, but by the gods who would look after the deceased in the afterlife.
This particular cone reads :'The revered under Osiris, the Prince, Lord of the two lands MER-MOSE.'

Purchased from Davies Antiques 12.7.1978.
