Notes

Alan Cole
Leslie Durbin (1913-2005) was a silversmith. Although Durbin made many wonderful items of the silversmith's art and designed a number of coins for Queen Elizabeth II, he will be long remembered as the maker of the Stalingrad sword of honour. This two-edged fighting weapon in its scabbard, with its blatant overtones of medieval chivalry, was presented by Winston Churchill to the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin at the allied conference on war strategy held in Tehran in November 1943.
