Notes

Alan Cole
The Lord's Prayer written on birch bark in Mi'kmaq pictographs by Dr Randall Rosenfeld. Mi'kmaq is written alphabetically today, but in the past it was written in pictographs. Though these pictographs were modified by Jesuit missionaries, who used them to teach Christian prayers to Micmac people, they probably predated European contact.

Dr Randall Rosenfeld, (co-author with me of the article in the journal of the Society of Antiquaries of London on the tooth burnisher in the MOWRC collection) is a leading expert on medieval scripts and instruments. He became national archivist of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada and has the singular honour of having an asteroid named after him.
