Notes

Alan Cole
Pictographic clay tablet representing, among other things, ox, cattle, and barley. Sumer c. 2900 BC .

The two impressed ‘dots’ by the ox each represent the number ten and the lines each represent one. These are said to be precursors of the later Sumero/Babylonian sexagesimal number system (counting in 10's and 60's).
